High Achievers – outliers, trailblazers, innovators – are often labeled “difficult.” Too intense, too demanding, too argumentative, too dismissive of others.

The very qualities that make us “difficult” are often the same ones that drive our greatest contributions.

I’ve certainly felt the pain of these labels – too difficult, too perfectionistic, too opinionated. “Why do you always have to…?” “Why can’t you just…?” “Life would be much easier if you’d just…” Sound familiar?

Sometimes the labels have merit – we can learn and grow. Often, they’re the price of being a high achiever – seeing possibilities others miss, creating what others can’t imagine, and operating in ways that naturally set us apart. The challenge? Staying true to ourselves, our values, and our purpose while building understanding and connection where possible.

Sometimes we’ll still be considered difficult – and while it may still be painful, it’s okay. The key is figuring out how to keep going: being present, open-hearted, and discerning. Sometimes this means setting boundaries, occasionally even leaving a relationship. Always it means staying true to your mission while remaining conscious in your choices.

Another reminder of why mastering your Power Drivers and your state is crucial for living fully, joyfully, and on purpose.

How do you navigate being seen as “difficult” while staying true to your mission? What’s your experience with this particular challenge?
